HighSpeed Internet Connections: DSL. with  Larry
Sieber. Larry is a Senior Technical Support Engineer working in Network Complex Services, Network Reliability and Operations Center, Qwest Communications. Over 28 yrs with the company and its entities (PNB, USW, Qwest). 3 yrs as a DSL tech support manager. Larry provided final tier trouble mitigation for operational DSL tech support issues from customer PC to ISP.

Larry Sieber (from Qwest) (Left) showing someone how to setup one of their DSL products. He also gave me a pdf file on one of their new products the 2-Wire 2700 router. This is a Link to the Qwest tech support website for DSL updates: http://www.qwest.com/internethelp/modems/gt701-wg/index.html
Larry talked about the older routers and the transition to the newest product, from a Cisco 678 (DMT) thru the ActionTec 1520/1524 to ActionTec GT701WG and finally to their newest offering the 2-wire 2700HGV (I actually tried this on my long loop at home (28,000 feet) and it trained up at the same line quality as my Actiontec 1520 and the wireless portion gave me an extra bar-as compared to my Linksys Wireless G router.)
He said Qwest has doubled the subscribers to DSL from last year and they are installing hundreds of remote dslams each month in their territory (14 states). He also said Qwest is using an OC192 for their backbone (to the internet).

He talked about Qwest and their VoIP offering and something about MSN Live that Qwest will offer near the end of 2006. Another thing that Qwest has on it’s website is something called “Quick Care” for remote troubleshooting, apparently some software you can download for free. He talked about their all in one product consisting of DirecTV ( >155 Channels ), HSI (DSL 1 M upload and 1.5 M download and digital voice for $86.97. – S, Solberg, SPCUG
